Oliver McGowan Training and Funding

Training / Tiers

Training is made up of two parts:

1. eLearning (all staff must complete - available for free on the eLearning for Health website

2. Webinar (tier one) or face to face training (tier two).Guidance on both tiers can be found here


Tier 1: For people who require a general awareness of the support autistic people or people with a learning disability may need. It is delivered as an online webinar (one hour) and accessible through any approved training provider on the list. 

Tier 2: Delivered in person (one day), with several trainers covering the South West and able to travel. 

Training Providers

Training providers approved to deliver Oliver’s training are listed on the approved trainers list, which includes lots of organisations with accredited trainers for Tier 1 and/or Tier 2. 

Disability Together 

They offer both tier one and tier two. Devon County Council recently undertook an options appraisal of the approved list and selected Disability Together.

They do have open courses which you can attend rather than booking a whole day which would cover 30 staff. Oliver McGowan Course Dates - Disability Together.

They will be able to share with you their availability and capacity for delivering training.

Funding (Learning Development Support Scheme LDSS)

Each eligible recipient can claim up to £25,000 in total reimbursement for the period 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 from the LDSS.Funding per person: 

In house training (when a trainer is employed by an ASC provider registered with the CQC to internally deliver a session of Oliver’s Training to its staff)

  • Tier One - £12.50
  • Tier Two - £50

Procured training (when an ASC provider registered with the CQC pays an external company to deliver Oliver’s Training with costs charged per staff member completing the course)

  • Tier One - £25
  • Tier Two - £90
